Williamsburg Place Alumni Featured in Roanoke Times After Overcoming Addiction

Pam Rickard, a resident of Rocky Mount, VA, was recently featured in an article by The Roanoke Times highlighting her struggle to overcome the grips of alcohol addiction. An avid runner and participant in the New York City Marathon, her inspirational story is also being featured in an upcoming book from HarperCollins about the famous NYC Marathon.

After being arrested several times for DUI, Rickard, who is a 46-year-old mother of three, was determined to release herself and her loved ones from the perilous trap that is alcoholism. She arranged to go to Williamsburg Place in order to get her life back on the right track.

Rickard claims she will never forget the lessons she learned there, including the one that humility is following directions. Williamsburg Place helped Rickard to realize the insecurities that lead to her chronic drinking problem. After spending 33 days at Williamsburg Place, she was allowed to rejoin her family and the rest of society.

While her alcoholism may have cost her the right to vote and drive, Rickard is glad that she is now sober and enjoying the things that she loves: being with her family and running like the wind.

Read the rest of this inspirational story here and look for the upcoming book "A Race Like No Other" by Liz Robbins that features Rickard's story.
